There are numerous internship options that were offered to us this year. My understanding is that some of these ministry opportunities are offered every year and some of these internships may change for you. I've tried to briefly summarize what we do with each ministry. We come alongside the ministry that the locals are already doing and support the leaders and the work they do.

A few of us have multiple internships since one internship didn't offer enough hours to fill our time. I work at Awhina Teina which is a shelter for teenage girls getting out of abusive situations and prostitution. Awhina Teina also has flats that women and their children live in that have moved out of Merrivale (a women's shelter) and need somewhere to stay before being out on their own again. I go twice a week and hang out with the teenage girls while watching TV, helping with dinner, or simply chilling out. It's a slow process building relationships but I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the girls. I also play with the kids to give the single moms a break.

My other internship is at Papatoetoe Baptist Church with the Evangelism Director. This is a new ministry of Pap Bap so I have watched training DVDs, done street evangelism, and helped develop a vision for what this ministry looks like. It is a two part internship in that 1) you learn and develop ways to share your faith with others by training and practice and that 2) you help equip and develop the church body to reach out in evangelism. We provided a training session for the church and have run an Alpha Course as well.

Lanie works at Merrivale Home which is a part of Baptist Action ministries. Merrivale is a home for women that acts as the stop-gap. It is there last option before having their children removed from their care. The shelter provides counselling and parenting courses for the women who come from a variety of backgrounds including alcohol and drug addictions and abusive situations. Lanie has helped in cleaning the facility, with paperwork, and with childcare. Lanie works with the Children's Therapist and helps care for the kids. She has also had opportunities to get to know the women closely that live there.

Here's the other internships offered that the team goes to. Caitlin from our team works with Manurewa Baptist with the Children's Ministry. Caitlin worked alongside the Children's minister with Sunday School programs, small groups for kids, and special events. After the children's minister had her baby Caitlin was the interim children's minister and helped coordinate volunteers and kept the programs running. Caitlin also helps a mom that home-schools her children one morning a week and works in a classroom in a school as well.

Brandon has worked at Manurewa Baptist Church with the youth ministry department. Manurewa's youth program has reached out to kids that come from non-church backgrounds as well as continuing to spiritually grow the churched youth. Before Christmas break he led a small group that included teenagers that didn't know much or anything about Christianity. This semester he is working with a small group of different students. Brandon has briefly spoken in the night service, worked youth retreats and camps, helped plan studies, and assisted the youth ministers in anyway he can in running the youth ministry. He also helps with Youth for Christ ministries twice a week.

Isabel works with Youth For Christ a few days a week. She helps with office work, helping out with the work that it takes to put on events such as camps and special activities, and helps out at the Rock Solid youth programs offered.

Isabel works at Disabled Trust in addition to her Youth For Christ internship. Disabled Trust provides programs, activities, and fellowship for people in the South Auckland area that have disabilities. Crystal helps out there too and both have helped lead morning worship assemblies, helped feed participants, and worked weekend camps for the disabled.

Crystal and Andrew set up an internship with Dingwall Trust- a foster home facility for kids. They go multiple times a week in the afternoon and play with kids and build relationships with the kids and caregivers. They are able to give extra attention to kids that live in a group care setting. Andrew and Crystal have also started to lead a bible study once a week that has explained who God is and who Jesus is. Andrew has also had the opportunity to do park outreach to some of the kids at our local park. He goes one afternoon a week and skateboards and hangs out with the kids after school.

Brooke works with PACT (Papatoetoe Adolescent Christian Trust) full time. She helps coordinate t-ball during recess time, teaches Bible in Schools once a week, helps lead a girls and boys program for at-risk children, helps run a Saturday sports day, and helps with Holiday Programs offered when the kids are out of school. She loves working with all the kids and has a lot of variety in her schedule.

Vanessa seems to find endless opportunities to serve in her ministry with Crosspower. Crosspower Ministries is in Otara and has numerous different outreaches. They outreach to kids at risk- kicked out of school, just out of jail, in gangs- in hopes to give them an alternative to that kind of life. Vanessa has taught

art in the Crosspower's alternative school system, helped with administrative tasks, cleaning the facilities, helped with a girls' choir, been involved in starting off a mentoring program, helped with an after-school program, and almost anything else you can imagine. There seems to be endless possibilities to get plugged into that ministry. Adam also works at Crosspower Ministries by cleaning the facility and working with 274 which does outreach in local parks to give the kids something positive to do. They set up pool tables, games, trampolines, and activities in parks after schools and play with the kids.

BJ and Brian work with Victory Outreach Church. Victory is a small but growing church that focuses on reaching out to those in the community with drug, alcohol, and abuse issues with the message of Christ. Victory Outreach International sponsored a Nicky Cruz Crusade this February and have continued to do open-air evangelism in the "rough" neighbourhoods since then. The internship varies from helping lead a bible study, helping with children's ministry, assisting Pastor Tony in caring for the congregants, helping plan the crusade this year, and participating in the street rallies. Victory has recently started a Men's Home to offer rehab and discipleship to men wanting to change.
