I hoped that you took the time to answer the questions about Esther. It seems like many of you enjoyed reading the book and gained insights that I enjoyed reading. I would encourage you to read the other Esther posts by the other FYM’s, you definitely will see many perspectives on the book.
Before we go into Esther chapter 3, let me give you some of my insights on chapter 2. There are three character qualities that Esther portrayed that I see in these verses.
GRACIOUS – Esther’s graciousness is seen first of all I her lack of complaint in what many would consider a cruel and unfair situation. She was being groomed to be a concubine of the king. Yet, there was no soreness in her attitude.
TEACHABLE – When it came to be each girl’s turn to visit the king, she was allowed to have “anything she desired” (v.13). Yet when it was Esther’s turn, instead of selfishly asking for anything and everything, “she did not request anything.” (v.15). She had a teachable heart and listened to advice.
SUBMISSIVE – As an orphan, Esther was under the authority of her cousin, Mordecai. When she was selected to the king’s harem, he told her not to let anyone know she was a Jew. She obeyed Mordecai but a great comment is made is verse 20, when it says, “for Esther did what Mordecai told her
as she had done when under his care.” This is excellent example of how we should submit to God-given authority.
Ultimately, it was the internal beauty of Esther’s character that set her apart.
Read Esther 3 this week and post in the comments section of this article no more then a three sentence summary of the chapter.
